Making Your Own Beats - Hip Hop Beats Tips by Nadel Paris

If you are interested in making your own beats, then read this. You will learn tips to create hip hop beats.

As a beats maker, it is important to understand the different steps involved in creating your beats. Today we are just going to focus on the difference between editing, mixing, and mastering. Some people think that all of this occurs in the same step. Sometimes one step may blend into another, but these are actually three different steps.

The Editing Step

Once you have created your initial recording of the various tracks, you need to go back through each track and make any necessary changes. Sometimes you might end up changing a complete arrangement and other times it might be just certain notes in certain instruments. You may listen and decide that you want to have a different instrumental sound.

The Mixing Step

It is during this phase that you add your effects and listen to how all of the tracks blend together. You can add such things as your reverb, echo, volume, panning and distortion to name just a few. You can work with each track individually or you can work with a combination of tracks and then put them all together.

The Mastering Step

During this phase, the mastering engineer takes the final mix and does some last adjustments to the sound. It is during this step that the compression of the full track and the EQ of the complete song are done. The final timing and volume issues are completed and a master tape is created. Once the final tape is completed, it is then ready for the duplication process, where a predetermined number of CDs are produced in the required format.
